Commonwealth Day, 10 March 2014

This year’s programme is in collaboration with the CPA UK Branch and  will include a Debate Session which will  promote the virtues of both the Commonwealth and parliamentary democracy. We hope this session will give participants some practical experience of the parliamentary debate. The day will also include attendance at the Observance at Westminster Abbey at which will be present Her Majesty The Queen as Head of the Commonwealth and all Commonwealth High Commissioners in London; and attendance at the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s (CSG) evening reception also n the presence of The Queen.

We also hope that Branches will take the opportunity to commemorate the day by raising awareness of the Commonwealth and the CPA among younger people. The CPA Headquarters has allocated funding to facilitate the organisation of Commonwealth Day programmes by CPA Branches. Grants will be made to Branches on the basis of activities and projects run by, or for, young people. Awards will be more generous to those Branches which can demonstrate innovation.
