Parliamentary Staff Development Workshop for the Asia and South East Asia Region

Date: 23-27 June 2014

As part of the CPA’s core programme of support for parliamentary staff, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association organised a Parliamentary Staff Development Workshop for National Branches within the Asia and South East Asian Regions and in addition, the sub-National Branches of Malaysia.

Background:
A well resourced Parliament will have sufficient expert staff, able to provide impartial support to members in a vast array of areas of parliamentary business. A deficit in support staff with the requisite skills will inevitably result in a limitation to the effectiveness of Parliaments. The CPA is committed to better resourcing Parliaments and consequently making for a more effective democracy; serving our nations to the best of our ability.

10  Branches in the South East Asia and Asia Regions will attend the Workshop, including 2 participants from the Host Branch together with 4 resource persons. The resource persons for this particular Workshop were:

Dato S.K. Devamany, Speaker, Perak and Member of the CPA Executive Committee
Dhammika Dasanayake, Secretary-General, Sri Lanka
Anne Quah, Singapore
Amisyahrizan Amir Khan, Malaysia
