CPA Secretary-General visits the Victoria University of Wellington to deliver a CPA Roadshow

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretary-General, Mr Akbar Khan has visited the Victoria University of Wellington to deliver a CPA Roadshow on Parliament and the Commonwealth. The Secretary-General was visiting the CPA New Zealand Branch on his way to Tonga to attend the Pacific and Australia Regional Presiding Officers and Clerks Conference. The Secretary-General's visit to New Zealand was hosted by the Speaker of the Parliament of New Zealand, Rt Hon David Carter.

The CPA Roadshow is designed to help to increase young people’s awareness of parliament and democracy. To that end, the Secretary-General met with students on the Victoria International Leadership Programme at the University who had the chance to ask questions.

CPA Roadshows provide an opportunity for young people to discuss issues of concern about their society and democracy, to meet local Members of Parliament and Parliamentary staff and to find out about the work of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the wider Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association connects, develops, promotes and supports Parliamentarians and their staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and the implementation of the enduring values of the Commonwealth.
