The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Mr Akbar Khan sent his best wishes to the CPA Workshop and said: “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the CPA Grenada Branch for hosting this very important programme. CPA Parliamentary Staff Development Workshops are part the CPA’s core programmes for its member parliaments. This is because at the CPA, we recognise that Parliamentary staff are critical to the effective functioning of Parliaments across the Commonwealth. Parliamentary staff constitute a parliament’s institutional memory and it is critical that they are provided with adequate development opportunities for personal and professional growth. By taking advantage of these opportunities, parliamentary staff are able to align their respective legislature with the ever-changing requirements of 21st century society. The CPA is uniquely placed to assist the development needs of parliamentary staff through its connectivity to relevant networks; through its focus on peer-to-peer learning; by establishing parliamentary standards such as the CPA Benchmarks for Democratic Legislatures; and by promoting the Commonwealth’s political values.”
