CPA Roadshow held at university in Pakistan

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has held a CPA Roadshow for young people at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The CPA Secretary-General, Mr Akbar Khan accompanied by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Defence, delivered the CPA Roadshow to a group of young people to help to awareness of parliament and democracy.

The CPA Roadshow was held at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) and presented to a group of students and lecturers. In an informative session, students had the opportunity to put their questions on topical political issues to the Secretary-General and the Senator and also to participate in a quiz on their knowledge of the Commonwealth and the CPA.

The Secretary-General of the CPA and the Senator were welcomed by the Rector of NUML, Major Gen Zia Uddin Najam HI (M) (Retd). 

CPA Roadshows provide an opportunity for young people to discuss issues of concern about their society and democracy, to meet local Members of Parliament and Parliamentary staff and to find out about the work of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the wider Commonwealth. CPA Branches are being encouraged to host a CPA Roadshow in their own jurisdiction with Members of Parliament meeting young people.

The mission of the National University of Modern Languages is to establish, sustain and enhance itself as a quality-centric higher education institution that provides excellent academic environment and opportunities for creating educated, productive, and responsible citizens of Pakistan and the global citizenry through intellectual, personal and professional growth.

The Secretary-General of the CPA, Mr Akbar Khan was visiting Pakistan as part of a visit to the CPA Pakistan Branch and also to attend the CPA Parliamentary Staff Development Workshop for the Asia and South East Asia, which was hosted by the Parliament of Pakistan.
