Nigeria Parliament host CPA Workshop on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Parliament for the Africa Region 



The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Workshop on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Parliament for the Africa Region has taken place in Abuja, Nigeria hosted by the CPA Nigeria Branch and the National Assembly of Nigeria.

The Workshops, in partnership with the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) were opened by the Hon. Yusuf Lasun, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives who spoke of the need for legislative action to maximise potential of ICTs. Minister of Communications, Hon. Adebayo Shitu MP gave the keynote speech.

Hon. Umar Jibril MP, the CPA’s Regional Representative for Africa also gave a speech at the opening ceremony and spoke of the need for strong regulations for proper use of ICTs.

Mr Joe Omorodion, Director of Finance and Administration at the CPA Secretariat gave the address on behalf of the Secretary-General of the CPA, Mr Akbar Khan. To read the CPA's opening address please click here.

The CPA Workshops will bring together key legislators from the Africa Region together with experts in the field to explore the role of Parliamentarians in the governance of ICTs. 

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association connects, develops, promotes and supports Parliamentarians and their staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and the implementation of the enduring values of the Commonwealth.
