CPA Roadshow visits St Thomas More High School in Southend, United Kingdom   

Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, Mr Akbar Khan, CPA Secretary-General and Ms Meenakshi Dhar, CPA Director of Programmes have visited the St Thomas More High School as part of the CPA Roadshows touring the Commonwealth to help to increase young people’s awareness of parliament and democracy. They spoke to some of the 6th Form students from St Thomas More High School and Westcliff High School.

A new chapter in democracy as the National Assembly of Mauritius joins other Commonwealth Parliaments in establishing a gender caucus to advance democratic governance  

The National Assembly of Mauritius has launched a new Parliamentary Gender Caucus aimed at promoting gender equality in Parliament. Hon. Mrs Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius spoke of the catalytic effect that gender equality has in the achievement of an inclusive and progressive society and promoting good governance and Mr Akbar Khan, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) was guest of honour at the launch in Mauritius. .

Gender equality and increasing women’s representation in parliaments is top of the agenda for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians   

Over 20 Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians from 16 countries have met to discuss the gender priorities for 2017 and beyond at a working group and strategy session held in the United Kingdom. The two-day retreat provided the CWP participants with an opportunity to take stock of gender representation in Commonwealth legislatures and re-commit to energising the CWP to take action to better support women in parliament.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at OECD Global Parliamentary Network   

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association has attended meetings and bilaterals at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) 5th Global Parliamentary Network in Paris, France attended by over 120 Members of Parliament from 40 different countries.

Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) visits CPA Isle of Man Branch at Tynwald and brings CPA Roadshows to young people on the island  

The CPA Secretary-General, Mr Akbar Khan has visited the Isle of Man Branch of the CPA and Tynwald, the Island’s Parliament, for a two day visit. During his visit to the Isle of Man, the Secretary-General met with the President of Tynwald, Hon. Stephen Rodan MLC and the Speaker of the House of Keys, Hon. Juan Watterson SHK, at the Legislative Buildings in Douglas and also visited four schools as part of the CPA Roadshows touring the Commonwealth to help to increase young people’s awareness of parliament and democracy.
