Commonwealth Parliamentary Association embeds good governance and democracy in St Helena, one of the remotest legislatures in the Commonwealth 
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has helped to strengthen parliamentary practice and procedure for the St Helena Legislature following the recent elections in July 2017 through a CPA Post-Election Seminar for newly elected Members from 20 to 27 January 2018. One of the remotest legislatures in the CPA’s membership of over 180 Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures, the St Helena Legislature is in the British Overseas Territory located on a small island in the Atlantic Ocean with a population of 4,500 people.

Chairperson builds new three year strategy for CPA as she launches Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Roadshow for young people in Cameroon with CPA Secretary-General
The new Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee, Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, MP is building a new three year strategy for her term of office as she welcomed the CPA Secretary-General, Mr Akbar Khan to Cameroon on his first official visit since the Chairperson was elected in November 2017.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to play crucial role in embedding good governance in St Helena, one of the remotest legislatures in the Commonwealth
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will help to strengthen parliamentary practice and procedure for the St Helena Legislative Council following the recent elections in July 2017 when it holds a CPA Post-Election Seminar newly elected Members and launches the CPA Roadshow for Young People in St Helena next week. The CPA Post-Election Seminar in St Helena, the ‘Galapagos of the South Atlantic’, will enable recently elected Parliamentarians to gain a broader understanding of the principles of parliamentary democracy and strengthen their skillsets.

Commonwealth Speakers meet in Seychelles for 24th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth
Speakers and Presiding Officers from across the Commonwealth are meeting in Seychelles for the 24th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) taking place from 8 to 13 January 2018 which was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Danny Faure.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Chairperson emphasises vital role that Parliamentarians can play at 2018 CHOGM  
The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee, Hon. Fifty future Parliamentary Leaders from across the globe to participate at the 9th Commonwealth Youth Parliament in Jersey  
Over 50 Commonwealth youth delegates aged 18 to 29 will convene next week for the 9th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (9th CYP) hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the States Assembly in St Helier, Jersey. The week long Commonwealth Youth Parliament provides a key development opportunity for young people from the Commonwealth with ambitions of public office and is designed to demonstrate to potential future young Parliamentarians the fundamentals behind the processes of Parliament.

Role of Parliament in the Sustainable Development Agenda to be the focus at 6th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Regional Conference in Bihar 
Over 100 Commonwealth Parliamentarians from across India will gather today for the 6th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Regional Conference in Patna, Bihar to be held from 16 to 19 February 2018. The theme of the conference will be the ‘Role of Parliament and Parliamentarians in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ and the conference will be attended by the CPA Chairperson and the CPA Secretary-General.

Mauritius hosts Commonwealth Parliamentarians as island nation celebrates 50th anniversary of independence           
The National Assembly of Mauritius and CPA Mauritius Branch has hosted over 30 Commonwealth Speakers and Members of Parliament for the Mid-Year meetings of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) from 20 to 24 March 2018.

Parliamentary staff training programme in Kenya builds skills for Commonwealth Parliaments          
Parliamentary staff from 15 Commonwealth Parliaments have undertaken a staff development programme in Nairobi, Kenya which has been organised by the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) and the Parliament of Kenya in partnership with McGill University and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (who funded some participants to attend the programme).

University students in Mauritius learn about Commonwealth Parliaments and democracy at CPA Roadshow         
Students at the University of Mauritius have been finding out about the Commonwealth, parliament and democracy at a CPA Roadshow. The Roadshow, organised by the National Assembly of Mauritius and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), provides an opportunity for young people to discuss issues of concern about their society and democracy, to meet Members of Parliament and Parliamentary staff and to find out more about the work of the CPA and the wider Commonwealth

Newly elected and returning Members of the National Assembly of Kenya have strengthening their knowledge of parliamentary practice and procedure at the Post-Election Seminar held jointly with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Mombasa, Kenya, from 4 to 8 March 2018. The CPA Post-Election Seminar focused on the theme of ‘Sharing our experiences to enhance good governance and continually safeguard the welfare of the nation’ which enabled recently elected Parliamentarians to gain a broader understanding of the principles of parliamentary democracy and strengthen their skillsets.

Focus on a common future for young people as Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) celebrates Commonwealth Day 2018     
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has marked Commonwealth Day 2018 both in London at the CPA Headquarters Secretariat and across the CPA Regions and Branches. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth and Patron of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, with members of the royal family, attended celebrations in London to mark Commonwealth Day 2018 and attended one of the largest multi-faith celebration services in Westminster Abbey. Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, MP, Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon attended the service together with Mr Akbar Khan, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians highlight gender equality and women’s representation in Parliaments to mark International Women’s Day 2018    
Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) today marked International Women’s Day 2018 by highlighting gender equality and increasing women’s representation in Parliaments. International Women's Day (8th March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity, with the theme of International Women's Day 2018 calling for 'Progress for Women and the Vote in the Commonwealth'.

Commonwealth Youth Parliament inspires future young leaders from across the Commonwealth    
Commonwealth youth delegates aged 18 to 29 met for the 9th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (9th CYP) from 25 February to 1 March 2018, hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the Jersey States Assembly in St Helier, Jersey. The 49 delegates at the 9th CYP came from fifteen countries, ranging from the largest (India) to the smallest (Niue), and from 35 CPA Branches across eight CPA Regions. The five days of the Commonwealth Youth Parliament provided a key development opportunity for young people from the Commonwealth with ambitions of public office and introduced these potential young Parliamentarians to the fundamentals behind the processes of Parliament.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to deliver Post-Election Seminar to help embed good governance in Kenya    

Following the elections in 2017 in Kenya, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will hold a jointly-organised Post-Election Seminar with the National Assembly of Kenya to help newly elected Members of Parliament strengthen their knowledge of parliamentary practice and procedure in Mombasa, Kenya, from 4 to 8 March 2018.

New ceremonial mace presented to the Commonwealth Youth Parliament   
A new ceremonial mace for the Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) has been inaugurated at the 9th CYP in Jersey. The new mace was presented to the Commonwealth Youth Parliament by youth delegate, Artour Sogomonian from British Colombia, Canada on behalf of the former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Hon. Linda Reid, MLA, who hosted the 8th CYP in November 2016.
