Commonwealth Day

The CPA's annual programme to celebrate Commonwealth Day on the second Monday of March brought 39 young Commonwealth citizens to the House of Commons and Headquarters
of the CPA. CPA Branches nominated the participants who attended the one-day event which centred on the Commonwealth Day theme of "Opportunity through Enterprise".

Benchmarking 2.0 Report: Improving Parliamentary Performance in a Tech-Enabled World

A Study Group, jointly organised by the CPA and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), was held in London, UK, May 7-9, 2013. The meeting discussed how Parliamentarians and parliamentary monitoring organizations (PMOs) can harness ICTs to reach new audiences. It also focused on enahncing the ability of citizens to participate in parliamentary work.

As part of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Work Programme, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Parliament of Bangladesh, convened a ‘Parliamentary Workshop on Women’s Political Party Caucusing’ held as a satellite meeting to the 10th Commonwealth Women Gender Affairs Ministers Meeting (WAMM), which took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 17-19 June.

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2013

Date: 15-17 November 2013
Location: Colombo, Sri Lanka


CHOGM takes places biannually and involves the heads of government from all Commonwealth nations. Every two years the meeting is held in a different member state and is chaired by the host nation's respective Prime Minister or President, who becomes the Commonwealth Chairperson-in-Office.


The CPA delegation for the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will consist of: The CPA Chairperson, Rt Hon. Sir Alan Haselhurst MP, the CPA Vice-Chairperson, Hon. Datuk Ronald Kiandee MP and the CWP Chairperson, Hon. Rebecca A. Kadaga MP, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda.
