The the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), Hon. Dr Noraini Ahmad, MP, Malaysia together with the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Hon. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh attended the 2017 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF in Washington DC, USA.

10th Regional Conference of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) for Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region takes place in St Kitts 


The St Kitts and Nevis Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has hosted the 10th Regional Conference of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP). The meeting took place alongside the 42nd Regional Conference of the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic (CAA) Region. Hundreds of Commonwealth Parliamentarians and observers from around the region gathered in St. Kitts and Nevis for the week-long conference hosted in St. Kitts and Nevis for the second time in its history on the theme of ‘Enhancing Democracy through the use of the Parliamentary System and the Media’.

The conference also held the Caribbean Regional Youth Parliament, hosted by the St Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA). During the conference, the CPA Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Regional ‘Hot Topic’ Forum Part Two took place which heard from a number of speakers on the need for increased women’s political participation for the benefit of wider society as they discussed the ‘hot topic’ of the region - ‘Seeking to Increase Women’s Political Participation’. 



Closing the gender gap and promoting equality in social, economic and political issues is the renewed focus for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians in South-East Asia while the CPA Roadshow highlights youth political participation to university students in Malaysia     

The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) South East Asia Regional Seminar has taken place with women Members of Parliament from across the region at the Parliament of Malaysia

A new chapter in democracy as the National Assembly of Mauritius joins other Commonwealth Parliaments in establishing a gender caucus to advance democratic governance  

The National Assembly of Mauritius has launched a new Parliamentary Gender Caucus aimed at promoting gender equality in Parliament. Hon. Mrs Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius spoke of the catalytic effect that gender equality has in the achievement of an inclusive and progressive society and promoting good governance and Mr Akbar Khan, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) was guest of honour at the launch in Mauritius.

Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Regional Steering Committee meeting held for the India Region in New Delhi  
The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) India Region has held their Regional Steering Committee meeting at Parliament House in New Delhi. The CWP meeting was chaired by Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, MP (Lok Sabha, India), the Chairperson of the CWP India Region and the CWP International Steering Committee Members for the India Region.

Gender equality and increasing women’s representation in parliaments is top of the agenda for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians 

Over 20 Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians from 16 countries have met to discuss the gender priorities for 2017 and beyond at a working group and strategy session held in the United Kingdom. The two-day retreat provided the CWP participants with an opportunity to take stock of gender representation in Commonwealth legislatures and re-commit to energising the CWP to take action to better support women in parliament.
