Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Asia Region

The CPA Asia Region has often held a CWP meeting as a satellite meeting to the CPA Asia Regional CPA Conference.

The first satellite meeting took place in January 2015. The satellite meeting provided the opportunity of sharing South Asian experiences on women’s political empowerment and leadership issues to the grass root level women. The Programme objectives were to take stock of the women empowerment and leadership activities currently being undertaken by the local government institutions in the; to evaluate the role of the elected women representatives in the decision making process in their respective institutions; to identify the gaps e.g. areas not being addressed or obstacles affecting women participation in the politics; and to explore recommendation that the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) can advocate to CPA for adoption and dissemination.

A seminar for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) has been held for women Members at the 5th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Asia Regional Conference from 29 July to 2 August 2019 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The seminar was attended by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Hon. Asad Qaiser and the Chairperson of the CPA International Executive Committee, Hon. Emilia Lifaka, MP, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon.
