What is the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) network?

Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities is a network within the CPA that aims to encourage Commonwealth Parliaments to enable effective and full participation of persons with disabilities at all levels.

It was established in 2017 to champion and increase the representation of persons with disabilities in Commonwealth Parliaments and to work towards the mainstreaming of disability considerations in all CPA activities and programmes.

What CPwD activities will take place at the 68th CPC?

Several CPwD meetings and related activities have been confirmed for the 68th CPC. Other activities aligned to the strategic objectives of the network may be added a later date.

• CPwD Regional Champions Meeting - including the election of the new CPwD Chairperson (see below)
• CPC Workshop C: A Look Ahead to CHOGM 2026: Championing the Human Factor from a Gender and Accessibility Lens
• CWP/CPwD Joint Workshop: Overcoming the Barriers to the involvement of Women with Disabilities in Politics (joint session with Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians CWP network).
• CPwD Town Hall Event - this event is open to Conference delegates who register to attend.

Elections of the CPwD Chairperson at the 68th CPC:

• Election of the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD) - this will take place during the CPwD Regional Champions meeting in October 2025 at the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (only CPwD Regional Champions can vote in this election). The role of CPwD Chairperson is for three years.
• CPA Branches have been asked to nominate candidates for this election by 5 September 2025.
