Event Details

Dates: 5 - 7 December 2022

Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

Hosted by: The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) network

Overview

Whilst there are numerous examples of women changemakers across the Commonwealth achieving extraordinary progress, the responsibility to re-gender Parliaments cannot and should not be seen as a burden placed on women Parliamentarians and stakeholders alone.

As such, the CWP network have identified the need for a workshop to speak to CPA Branches who have less than 10% representation of women in their Parliament and which will also seek to address how Champions of all genders can better address discriminatory practices, unequal access to resources and other issues that prevent the equal participation of women in Parliament.

This workshop will expand on the work already being undertaken by CWP on gender-sensitive Parliaments (GSP), with particular reference to two of the dimensions of a GSP: Equality of Participation and Gender Equality Policy / Women’s Substantive Representation.

This Workshop will also help Parliaments successfully encourage male champions within their institutions and/or wider civil society, whilst simultaneously promoting discussion on how all Parliamentarians, regardless of gender, can be facilitators for enhancing and supporting women’s political participation.

Registration

All CPA Branches have been invited to nominate up to two Members to attend this workshop. Please note there is a limited number of spaces available. If you are a Member of Parliament from an active CPA Branch and wish to attend this event, please contact your CPA Branch Secretary.

The nomination deadline for CPA Branches is: Friday 28 October
