CPA Webinar: Quotas and other Positive Action Measures to Advance Gender Equality Across the Commonwealth
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in Commonwealth Parliaments, with an average representation of just 25.8%. This is below the 30% target set at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). While gender equality in politics continues to gain momentum, research shows that targeted measures such as gender quotas can play a transformative role in accelerating representation and reshaping political spaces.
To mark the launch of a new report developed in collaboration with King’s Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (GIWL), the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will host a webinar titled ‘Quotas and other Positive Action Measures to Advance Gender Equality in Politics Across the Commonwealth’.
This event will spotlight the findings of the report, explore the impact of quotas and other positive action measures in various jurisdictions, and provide a platform for women Parliamentarians to share lived experiences and insights.
This event will take place via Zoom from 12:00-13:30 GMT on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
With 2025 shaping up to be a pivotal year for democratic renewal, this session will reflect on how targeted mechanisms can help overcome persistent barriers and pave the way for gender-balanced political leadership.
